Help More People Experience Point Reyes

Since the beginning of Point Reyes Adventure Co., we’ve wanted to make it easier for more people to experience Point Reyes, especially those who historically haven’t had the same access to this area. We’ve also hoped to create a simple way for people who care about this place to help make those opportunities possible for others.

Over the years, we’ve often adjusted pricing, donated time, or built special programs with local schools, youth programs, nonprofits, and families whenever we could. We had been talking about creating a Fund a Tour option when, during our Magnolia Project student-led kayak tour, a generous community member offered to cover a few public participant spots so more people could take part.

That moment made it feel like the right time to finally put the idea into motion.

We hope that this Fund a Tour program will help us expand the number of scholarships we’re able to offer each year.

What “Fund a Tour” Makes Possible

Fund a Tour contributions go directly toward covering the cost of someone’s seat on a guided PRAC trip.

That might include:

a local student joining their first kayak trip
a West Marin family getting out on the bay together
a participant from a partner nonprofit program
a small group connected to a school or community organization

Sometimes it’s someone’s first time to the coast.

Sometimes it’s their first time seeing their home from the water.

Examples of Past Tours

Over the years, community support and partner collaboration have helped us create opportunities like:

the Magnolia Project student-led kayak trip, where middle school students trained with us and guided members of the public on Tomales Bay
a Free Community Cleanup + Kayak Tour in partnership with Cleaner California Coast
a Free Bioluminescence Tour with Marin County Parks and Marin County Shoreline, supported by multiple Spanish-speaking interpreters
discounted trips for local West Marin families
reduced-cost access for school groups and youth programs
flexible pricing for individuals who reached out when cost was a barrier

How Scholarship Support Is Shared

Fund a Tour scholarships are offered in a few different ways. Some participants are referred through local schools, educators, and nonprofit partners we already work with, and others reach out to us directly when there are cost prohibitive factors.

Because we’re a small company, we keep the process simple and responsive rather than application-based.

We regularly hear from people who would love to join a trip but can’t make it work financially, and while we aren’t always able to offer scholarships to everyone who reaches out, the Fund a Tour program helps us expand what’s possible each season.
