Kayak Leadership 101 is a very full 3-day, all-inclusive, kayaking leadership course led by owners Liz Wilhelm and Dallas Smith. Participants begin at a front-country campground for night 1 and we will paddle into a boat-in-only beach campsite in the Point Reyes National Seashore for night 2. The course combines wilderness medicine, sea kayaking, Leave No Trace ethics, group management, local naturalist knowledge, and self-supported kayak camping. 


Graduates Receive:

  • Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor Certification
  • Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Certification
  • Point Reyes Adventure Co. Completion Certificate recognizing ACA-based kayak skills and recoveries.

To make the most of our time together in the field, the Leave No Trace and Wilderness First Aid components are hybrid classes (online and in-person). Required online coursework is completed in advance, with in-person, hands-on instruction integrated throughout the three days on the water and in camp.

Led by Liz Wilhelm and Dallas Smith, who together trained hundreds of leaders over the last 16 years of guiding in the Point Reyes area. Their combined experience spans large multi-day kayak and backpacking trips, wilderness medicine, and adventure education, giving participants a comprehensive, inclusive, hands-on learning experience.

We take care of the logistics so you can focus on learning. All camping gear, kayaks, paddles, PFDs, dry bags, and meals are included. (All dietary considerations can be accommodated.) 


Participants are also encouraged to bring their own gear if they have it.
